LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Tech women’s tennis team completed a perfect 2-0 weekend Saturday afternoon, defeating Ole Miss 4-0 at the McLeod Tennis Center.

With the 4-0 sweep, Texas Tech (5-1) finished the weekend 9-0 in singles action and 4-1 in doubles action.

Tech began the weekend Friday, with a resounding 7-0 victory over Houston, before disposing of Ole Miss (3-2).

As she has all season, Margarita Skriabina starred for Tech, as the Russian teamed up with Cristina Tiglea for a tidy 6-3 victory in doubles action. Skriabina closed the day with a two and four victory over No. 96 Sabina Machalova in singles play.

With the win, Tech’s No. 1 player improved to 7-1 on the season, and a perfect 5-0 against ranked players.

After Ole Miss won doubles court two in a tiebreaker, Olivia Peet and Metka Komac battled to a 7-4 victory in a breaker to seal the doubles point.

In singles action, Peet cruised past Anaelle Leclercq of Ole Miss 6-4, 6-1 to give Tech a 2-0 lead.

On court five, Komac powered her way to a 6-0, 7-5 win that set the stage for the 17th-ranked Skriabina to seal the deal.

With the victory, Tech moved to 5-1 on the seas season, and 4-0 at the McLeod Tennis Complex. All five of the Lady Raiders’ victories have been sweeps, as Tech is now 24-4 this season in dual action. Tech’s lone loss of the season was a tough 4-0 defeat to No. 9 Texas A&M.

In addition to the five overall team victories, Tech also won the Torero Classic, defeating then nationally-ranked Florida State and Stanford. Skriabina also won the team title in San Diego, earning three victories over nationally-ranked foes.

HEAD COACH TODD PETTY:

“Our girls were tired of playing against themselves and were ready to beat a team in a different uniform. We looked like a team that was excited to play the last two days. With the long layoff it almost felt like a second beginning of the season for us, and it was an exciting weekend. Our girls have trained really hard and we learned a lot from the [Texas] A&M match a couple of weeks ago. We’ve really spent three weeks cleaning up a few things. We’re becoming a much more disciplined team. We’re not tapping out in points and we’re building a strong competitive winning culture.”

Up Next:

The Lady Raiders will hit the road next weekend for the annual Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic. More details and full draws for the tournament will be released in the coming days.
