ST. MARYS — The St. Marys Community Concert Band will perform a Sounds of the Season concert 7 p.m. today at the St. Marys High School Auditorium.
The concert is presented by the Pleasants County Middle School and St. Marys High School and will feature a collection of Christmas favorites.
Composed of about 60 residents and conducted by Rocky Wiseman and Wayne Smith, the St. Marys Community Concert Band has performed since 1999 featuring music from the piccolo, flute, clarinet, saxophone, English horn, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonlum, tuba and percussion instruments.
Today’s performance is dedicated to the Rev. Randy Mitchell who passed away in September. He was a long-time band member who played the French horn.
“Tonight, a chair sits empty in his memory, representing the void left by his absence and how missed he is by the members of the SMCCB,” band members said in the program.
Pre-concert music by pianist Kris Hinrichs will begin at 6:35 p.m.
Admission is free, but donations of any amount will be accepted to benefit the Pleasants County Middle School Band and Instrumental Music Program.
Masks are required in accordance with Pleasants County School COVID protocols. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
Anyone interested in joining the band can email Christine Keeling at keeling.christine52@gmail.com and include their name, instrument, mailing address and phone number. Auditions are not required and rehearsals will resume in March at the St. Marys Marina.
