MARCH: Nutrition
In partnership with St. Joe’s
March is national nutrition month! Detroit Red Wings team dietitian Lisa McDowell and Red Wings players will discuss simple meals kids can make at home and teach kids about proper nutrition. Kids will be provided with healthy, easy to make recipes and nutrition information. Each participant will be asked to track their nutrition over two weeks for a chance to receive a Red Wings prize that will help a highlighted recipe.
APRIL: Financial Literacy
In partnership with Comerica Bank
April is National Financial Literacy Month! Join Red Wings In-Arena Host Carley Johnston and representatives from Comerica Bank to discuss the importance of budgeting as it relates to making healthy food choices when shopping. Students will have the opportunity to see Carley try out her budgeting skills – turning a $10 budget into a healthy meal. After watching Carley, students can submit their own budget for the chance to win a gift card to prepare their own healthy meal.
MAY: Sports and Fitness
To kick off May, students will learn exercise tips from Red Wings trainer Matt Buckley. Students will then be challenged to record their results from five different exercises (pushups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, running and body squats). At the end of the month, students will perform each challenge again and for each exercise they show improvement, they will earn a Red Wings prize. These challenges aim to reinforce the importance of exercise and physical fitness while motivating students to live a healthier lifestyle.
JUNE: Dairy
In partnership with United Dairy of Michigan
June is National Dairy Month. Red Wings In-Arena host Carley Johnston will visit a Michigan dairy farm to learn about the process of creating dairy-related products and their health benefits. Following the visit, students can create and share their own dairy-focused recipe with the Red Wings. The top recipes will get the chance to compete in an Iron Chef-inspired event at Little Caesars Arena.
